6 Affordable Microfiber Sleeper Sofas By Wayfair

Sleeper sofas, or sofa-sleepers as they are also known, are incredibly practical pieces of furniture. Unlike the traditional steel-frame sofabed, a sleeper can be purchased at a better price online, then assembled quickly at home. I happen to own the conventional  sofabed design myself and I love knowing that I have an extra bed just in case. However, it weighs a ton, so I couldn’t imagine paying the shipping charges for a steel-frame one today.

Luckily, manufacturers have “tweaked” the futon design into larger, more couch-worthy styles that convert from sofa to bed by allowing the back-cushion area to be placed flat down. As with any type of assembly-required seating, there are benefits as well as challenges which I list at the end of this page. In the meantime, here are six budget-friendly sleepers in various colors and styles that are available online from The Wayfair Furniture Company:

Sleeper sofas are designed to provide the same versatility as a conventional sofa bed without the higher price tag, bulk and added weight. Below, I have listed 3 positives and 3 negatives to consider about this type of furniture.

Negatives Include:

  1. Sleeper sofas have a middle “ditch” area that can be a challenge to sleep on.
  2. Unlike a conventional sofabed that allows the bed portion to be pulled out directly without needing extra wall space, a sleeper needs expansion room to lay flat.
  3. For me, the worst negative is the low-rise legs that many of these products come with. For some, that may not be a problem.

Positives Include:

  1. These items are the perfect sleeping/ sitting combination product for one-room living situations like studio apartments, dorm rooms, or anywhere where a person prefers the look of a sofa instead of a daybed or futon.
  2. They are much less expensive than conventional sofabeds and are much lighter to move  around for cleaning, vacuuming, e.t.c.
  3. They can offer you great style and function for your money if you pick the right one from a reputable manufacturer. It’s always nice to have an extra sleeping spot for guests.
